Bobby, Martin and Geoff celebrate their goals against QPR
Whilst listening to a discussion on the radio about a covid ban on players having a kiss and cuddle after a goal I was reminded of this 1968 performance.

All three of the World Cup winners scored - take a look at their reactions:

Marcus Rashford recently "credited" Mourinho with teaching him to be "smart" in the penalty area.

Impossible to imagine Greenwood teaching players not to be "too honest", against their better instincts.

In his book Greenwood accepts he made the wrong decision re Ferguson over Banks but he says it was purely down to the fact that he had already given his word to sign Ferguson before Banks was offered to him. So it was his integrity really that he is guilty of if anything.

Bobby Ferguson had a bad start at West Ham, and ok he wasn't Gordon Banks - plus he was replacing the popular Jim Standen (one of my personal all-time favourites). But he did improve and was runner-up Hammer of the Year in 1972. I remember him injuring a shoulder during a game and playing on just using one arm. We were 1-0 up I think, and he kept making saves until right near the end when a McDowell mistake gifted the opposition an equaliser.

Back in Ferguson's playing days, London footballers used to meet up for friendly non-footballing sporting competitions.

At one of these, the winner of the 100 metres (or yards) sprint was Bobby Ferguson.

This has stuck in my mind, as it's somehow typical of West Ham to have pace where it is marginal to the position.

Bobby Ferguson incredibly was a world record fee for a goal keeper.

Bobby Moore wanted Greenwood to go for Gordon Banks and Roy Macfarland, instead he got Ferguson and Stephenson, they were both useless. No wonder Peters left and Moore tried to leave.

Brilliant. Moore, Hurst, Peters, Brooking, Bonds. And a couple of good supporting roles Charles, Redknapp, Boyce. Shame Geoff had an off day, he didn't usually miss 3 in a row, and Fergie was as ever too slow coming out.

Watching those highlights reminds me why I was so into West Ham as a kid but so infuriated with them at the same time...We had 5 of the best players ever to grace the top flight in that team (Moore, Hurst, Peters, Brooking and Bonds) ... we scored great goals and made great moves on a crap pitch, ...yet we struggled to beat a QPR side at the bottom of the table because we never bought a decent centre half to replace Ken Brown when he retired or a top quality keeper.... it was all we lacked... we have not changed that much!!

Redknapps goal was good.

These days they would have to wait 5 minutes before celebrating just in case VAR disallows it.

Quite a bit of unnecessarily enthusiastic hair-tousling from Martin Peters there.

Just finished reading Ron Greenwoods book for a second time and in it he said he only saw Bobby Moore run the full length of the pitch to celebrate a goal after Ted McDougall scored his first for the Club. Not sure if true but the book is well worth a read and is a fascinating insight.

Given the amount of tears that were spilt with Haller's (lack of) reactions when he scored for us, I dread to think what would be said nowadays.

The difference of course is that Bobby, Martin and Geoff were not mardy, arrogant French/Ivorian CUNTS.
